Good points Tony!!
I'm a "fan" of "Keep it Simple" as well... and Russell's training is a goldmine to pick and apply the very best applications from and adapt them to one's personal approach in self defense.
Concerning the adrenaline rush in a "situation" I have found that my spirituality, Chi Gong, and meditation aiming to reach the highest level of being in contact with your Inner Self and Positive Cosmic Energies & thereby step by step rid myself of all kinds of fear, i.e. fear of dying makes "Wonders"...
This way one radiate positive inner power, inner strength, awareness beyond most and most of all you radiate unknowingly that you are not a victim due to walking tall with no fears.
This has kept me safe & sound in confrontations in Brazil.
Not only do you immediately stop short potential thugs when they feel your energy (= only mentally disordered people, really drunk ones and people on some types of drugs don't "Pick up" your energy) but you also are able to keep your "rush" under control (because you have reached a point when you Know subconsciously that death does no longer concern your spirit only the body you experience This life in..) making you able to act rationally.
Out of 4-5 attacks in Brazil all but one never escalated to having use physical force; I managed do mentally disarm these guys and make them back off this way.
The only time I had to use physical force was against a "High" drugged mugger.
He was way off in his mind and didn't have any "antennas", luckily he didn't know how to fight so after being dumped flat on the street for the third time he eventually got "tired" and withdraw.
I am Totally convinced that the power of your mind is the best self defense skill to acquire.
The physical skills are rarely needed...
Don't get me wrong on that statement - Physical "skills" are also important but in the majority of times it acts as a "back-up" and being in Inner Balance - Body, Mind and Spirit.
Have a Great summer with your loved ones!!!
