Articles by Russell Stutely
I have detailed below for you several articles that have
created a stir here and there and raised questions... made
people stand up and take notice... made people question what
they are doing.
That, in my opinion is a good thing. You do not have to agree
with what I am saying, but the fact that you have an opinion on
it, means that somewhere, somehow I have made you think about
this particular subject.
I will, over time, be adding some "video articles" too. This
should be great fun, so please keep coming back and checking out
this page and this site for more information.
If you want to use any of these articles, then you may as

Martial Arts and Misconceptions
Martial Arts and misconceptions are
happening every minute of the Day in every Dojo /
Gym in the World.
What do you mean I hear you shout? Our Gym / Dojo is
a real fighters gym, we have no mis-conceptions
here, we wear lycra shorts and get in the ring, we
know what we do works. |

Players To The
Game What are
Players to The Game? They are the bits that make
Pressure Points work properly. Sure, you can just
hit a point and get a reaction. But to truly be able
to make Pressure points work, you MUST be proficient
in Players first.
Over the last 7 or 8 years many people have
expressed an interest in learning the “Players to
The Game” or what are more accurately described as
“Technique Enhancers”. |

Interview with Russell Stutely Part 1
COMBAT Russell, you have been a
regular Columnist for the Magazine for a number of
years now. There is still considerable debate about
Pressure Points (PP’s) and their effectiveness or
even existence. What do you say to the critics?
RS Hi Paul, First of all, thanks for taking the time
to Interview me again and to give me the chance to
put across my point of view. |
|
Interview with Russell Stutely Part 2
COMBAT Russell, you make a big thing
about PP’s being the last 5% of what you do, yet
they are what you are known for. How do you
correlate these two seemingly opposing views
RS You mean being well known for the last 5% of what
should be taught? |
|
Interview with Russell Stutely Part 3
COMBAT Russell, tell us more about
your views on Kata and the Kata Bunkai usually
taught within the MA World
RS Well Paul, I am sorry to say that most of what is
taught is absolute BS. There is zero chance or less
of any of it actually happening in any environment
other than the sanitised inner sanctum of the Dojo.
The vast majority of the Bunkai taught is shown with
a Karate attack, a reverse punch or lunge punch for
example. Who has ever seen anyone, anywhere in the
street attack like that? |
|
Interview with Russell Stutely Part 4
COMBAT Welcome back Russell, How did
the Kata practice go?
RS Good one Paul, thanks
COMBAT We need to expand further on this whatever
move you want business. Surely each Kata move means
different things? |
|
Interview with Russell Stutely Part 5
COMBAT Hi Russell, back to the
interview. Please expand on these Kata Bunkai unlock
key principles that you mentioned previously.
RS It is this simple Paul. They are principles that
allow you to translate the movements in your Kata,
in to workable, effective and useable Bunkai. |

How Long How Good? How long
does it really take to get any good? That is a
question I get asked all the time. Every time I
teach a Seminar or a private Class this is one of
the first questions.
There are several factors to take into account when
answering this question. How good compared to what? |

Train Hard and Train SMART
Over
the last 15 or so years I have been very fortunate
to meet some of the Worlds most gifted and talented
Martial Artists. I have been even more fortunate to
train with these people, learn from them and become
friends with them.
During this period my training routines have been
heavily influenced by the likes of Peter
Consterdine, Herol “Bomber” Graham, Eddie Stokes and
of course Grand Master Rick Moneymaker. |

OCFM Review by Jamie Clubb
“Don’t worry I won’t do it hard” is fast becoming
the catchphrase of the quietly spoken founder of the
OCFM (Open Circle Fighting Method), Russell Stutely,
as he demonstrates the effect of what happens when
certain principles are applied to a general
technique. Within a dramatic split second several
things are confirmed by the student by being
demonstrated on: trust Russell when he says that a
certain modification will dramatically alter the
effectiveness of a certain technique, trust Russell
when he says it is very often not what you do but
rather how you do it, but whatever you do never
trust Russell when he says something is not going to
hurt. |
